The Last Blog...

Well…this is finally my last blog (thank God jajaja). In this opportunity I am going to talk about my experience as a blogger (that sounds so cool jajaja), that was really liberating and rewarding.

When we started this activity, I thought that the idea of people reading my words sounded horrible and terrifying. But then, when I finished my first post, and I visited and commented the blogs of some of my classmates, I realized that this work allowed me to learn more about them, and to express and open myself up.

This experience also helped me to practice and improve a lot my writing skills, because I had not written for a while; I searched every word I did not know and I needed to use in my texts, so I learned a lot during this semester.

Now, talking about the topics of the blogs, I have to say that at the beginning I thought they would be a little boring, but, in fact, they were very wide and easy to write about. And we chose some of them, which helped make this activity more entertaining for us.

Finally, I have no recommendations for the next courses; I think this “Blogging Experience” was really fun and different from our academic activities. I loved and enjoyed it very much.

Travels...

I was fortunate to be born into a family that really enjoy traveling, discovering, and exploring. My parents have been traveling around Chile since before I was born (This is one of the reasons why I have lived in so many different places throughout all my life jajaja). That is why is difficult to me to choose only one trip to talk about; I think every place I have visited is wonderful in a special and particular way…

But I still have another 107 words to write, so I decided I am going to talk about my last travel whit my parents and my little brother: we went from Santiago to Bariloche by car, touring different cities and towns and stopping where we pleased. It took us more than a month to make the full voyage, but every second that we spent there was worth it. We saw so many gorgeous landscapes, tried delicious food and spent a good time together as a family, as any trip we have done.

I took a lot of pictures in that travel, but my favorite photograph was taken by my dad with his cell phone when my brother and I were sitting on the lakeside, not far from Bariloche…

A Subject I've enjoyed studying this semester

In my career we have nine courses this year, each one of them with pros and cons (unfortunately, in most cases, the cons are related to the teachers). That is why is really difficult to me to choose only one subject to talk about…

So, I decided to taking account only the subjects that do not have a direct relation with the music, because the musical ones are special and everything, but they are not so new for me.

I think my favorite course of this semester is “Programación” (I am almost certain that the correct translation is “programming” jajaja). I love this subject because is very interesting and exciting to me to learn a whole new universal language, that is able to solve all kind of problems, related or unrelated with math.

This course also brings us the possibility of improve our mathematical logical thought, and our problem-solving capacity, thigs that will be very useful for us in the future.

The professors that impart this course are really good in my opinion, but I think they should give more support to some classmates that have another kind of intelligence, and are not fast learners in this kind of subjects...

A career-related website that I enjoy visiting...

Mmm…well, I don’t know if the website I am going to speak about is considered as a “career related website”, but I am going to take the risk and talk about it anyways…

YouTube is by far the best music and video-sharing website ever (for me, of course). This digital platform was founded on February 14, 2005, by Steve Chen, Chad Hurley and Jawed Karim, who revolutionized the way people watch videos on the Internet. That is why I really like this site, because is a friendly and efficient system for us, the users… and because is completely free :D  (yes, I know, the ads sucks u.u).

I think I visit this web every day of my life (morning, afternoon, and evening jajaja), because allows me to explore and listen new music and learn about new technologies, objects, programs, games, etc.  YouTube is very versatile in that sense; through the search engine you can find almost anything you can imagine…really, ANYTHING!!  you just have to be careful not to get addicted, because is a reeeally entertaining website :D

90's cartoons...

Well...I was born in 1998, so I did not start to watch television until I was like four years old, or something like that. That means that I didn’t watch early 90’s cartoons (unfortunately). So I’m going to talk about my favorite childhood animated TV show: Hey Arnold!

When I was a child I loved Arnold: his clothes, his way of speaking, his little hat, and how he sees the world. And is incredible how all the others characters have a special history and quality too. I remember that each chapter taught me something new and beautiful.

I will never forget a particular episode that made me see the cartoon in a new light. I think it was called “The Pigeon Man” and was about a really special man that lived in an abandoned building just with his pigeons. This chapter broke my heart, and made me believe that even thought people were cruel, there are good people in the world.

I highly recommend it :)

A photography...

Well…this is my picture…

It was really hard to me to choose only one photo…I think the world is full of good photographers, each one with reaaaaally good pictures…so, I chose this one not because I think is the best photo ever, but because is very special for me.

I took this shot the last day of my secondary education. That was a wonderful day, full of weeping and laughs…full of memories. My classmates and I wrote our wishes for the future in colored balloons freed in the air.  We all cried when the balloons started to fly far away, because we saw in them all our memories of the last three years together. During that time, we became a family.

I took just one photo of that moment, only one, so I never thought that in fact the picture would be good. That was like a little miracle…

Music...

I think the music means too many thinks for me; is something that accompanies me in the best and worst moments. Music also brings people of different races, classes, levels of education and cultures together, because is a universal language that crosses all borders. It’s one of the best things in the life; it can make you laugh as children, or cry all the night.

I like playing music, it helps me relax. But is really difficult for me to let others listen what I’m playing. So I prefer playing bass or piano completely alone...just for me.
I also love listening to music, specially rock and alternative bands. But I keep an open mind in that aspect jajaja…Lately I have listened very good music that isn’t necessarily the kind of music that I usually like.

My favorite band is and always will be Radiohead. I love Thom Yorke’s voice, and how he expresses so much on each of his songs. It’s like…I don’t know… magic? Jajaja Well, all the music is magic. What would we do without music?

My favorite piece of technology

Well…obviously I’m not an expert in technology, every day I learn something new about computers, cellphones, consoles, and geek stuff. That means that I will not talk about high tech (obviously, again), because I don’t know so much about it. So I’m going to talk about an object that has been used since the 40’s, the headphones.

I can’t imagine what my life would be like without them. I use them every day: when I’m in the subway, or when I’m trying to sleep, because they allow me listening to the most amazing invention of the human beings, the music.

I can’t remember the time I get my first pair of earphones; it was long time ago. But that moment changed the way I spend my free time. They are definitely my favorite piece of technology.

Why did I choose this career?

Well…I think it’s really difficult to explain why I choose my career. Until the day before applying to the University, I wasn’t sure about what I wanted. I had many alternatives in my head, and all of them were really promising.

I start to get involved in the music world since I was a child, because I started to take violin lessons when I was only seven years old. Of course I was too young to choose a career at that time of my life, but since that moment the music never left me. Over the years I discover a lot of new passions, like philosophy, painting, physics… and they made the decision even more difficult.

Well, in the middle of that big confusion, and whit the PSU scores in my hands, I realized that is impossible be completely sure about what do you want to do when you are only seventeen years old, so I let myself be carried away by my feeling, and I finally chose a career that mix almost everything I like: Sound Engineering. And I have no regrets.

About me...

My name is María Paz Morales. I was born on April 14th 1998, in the city of Santiago of Chile. When I was two years old I moved to Valdivia with my parents, Pilar and Ricardo, and my three siblings. I lived there during 2 years, but for my dad’s work I had to move again to Antofagasta…and again a couple of years later…well, I moved a lot of times during my childhood.

When I turned nine years old, my family and I settled in Santiago. Before I started high school, I was in a lot of different schools, too many to mention. The last three years of my school I studied in Divina Pastora School. In that period of my life I also discovered my two biggest passions: the bass and the drawing.

When I finished the senior year, I wasn’t sure about what I wanted to do with my life. So I took the risk and I started to study Sound Engineering at Universidad de Chile. It’s been only three months since that, but I think it was the best choice.
